Liverpool will have Real Madrid to contend with for their only summer target, according to reports.

Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly set for a transfer tussle with European champions Real Madrid, as both teams have identified the same player, Lille's Leny Yoro, as a priority target in defence.

The next top star?

Yoro, 18, rose through the ranks at Lille, and last season, he established himself as a starter in a Les Dogues side that finished 4th in the French top flight.

The teenager did not look out of place throughout the season, and through his performances, it became evident he is the latest in the long line of French talent production.

This has put him on the radar of several top clubs, chiefly Real Madrid, who are reported to lead the race for his signature. However, Liverpool are equally keen, and according to a report from the Athletic, they are laser-focused on the defender.

Liverpool on Yoro's trail

According to the Athletic’s James Pearce, despite the number of players linked to Liverpool as they begin a post-Klopp era under Arne Slot, the Reds are only concretely interested in one, Leny Yoro.

With the departure of Joel Matip and an injury crisis last season that exposed their lack of depth at the back, which forced them to trust reserve players, the Merseyside-based club are in the market for a centre-back, and per the aforementioned report, they only have eyes for Yoro.

However, they will have to contend with Real Madrid, who are also keeping tabs on the defender. The Reds have previously shared interest in a player with Los Merengues; the most recent was last summer with Jude Bellingham. They eventually had to back out, and there is belief that they expect to lose Yoro to Real Madrid as well.
