Liverpool return to the top of the Premier League table following a comeback victory against Brighton.

The Reds eased past the Seagulls in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday to move to the quarterfinal of the competition and needed to repeat the win.

Arne Slots' men did the job but needed a comeback to seal a 2-1 win against Brighton, making it a back-to-back win in four days.

As it happened

Only Cody Gakpo remained the only player from the Liverpool team who beat Brighton in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Eight changes were made by Brighton from that cup game, with defenders Ferdi Kadioglu, Jan Paul van Hecke and Igor Julio the three remaining.

Just 14 minutes into the game, Brighton shocked the Liverpool fans, scoring the first goal of the game.

Kaoru Mitoma started the move by skipping down the left. His low cross is touched on by Danny Welbeck and falls for Ferdi Kadioglu, who thumped the ball into the bottom corner off the post.

The second half was a different ball game, with Liverpool pressing forward to camp the Brighton players.

Their attacking threat paid off in the 69th minute when Cody Gakpo chipped in a cross from the left that evaded everyone and looped into the far corner for the equaliser.
