As it happened
Only Cody Gakpo remained the only player from the Liverpool team who beat Brighton in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
Eight changes were made by Brighton from that cup game, with defenders Ferdi Kadioglu, Jan Paul van Hecke and Igor Julio the three remaining.
Just 14 minutes into the game, Brighton shocked the Liverpool fans, scoring the first goal of the game.
Kaoru Mitoma started the move by skipping down the left. His low cross is touched on by Danny Welbeck and falls for Ferdi Kadioglu, who thumped the ball into the bottom corner off the post.
The second half was a different ball game, with Liverpool pressing forward to camp the Brighton players.
Their attacking threat paid off in the 69th minute when Cody Gakpo chipped in a cross from the left that evaded everyone and looped into the far corner for the equaliser.
Three minutes later, Liverpool took the lead when Mohamed Salah collected Curtis Jones' pass, cut onto his left foot and bent the ball into the top corner.
Liverpool held on till the end of the game despite Brighton’s late pressure, sealing their 2-1 comeback win.
