Mohamed Salah inspired Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield to return to the Premier League summit.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool made it seven consecutive wins in all competitions, defeating Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield to reclaim top spot.
Liverpool back on top
After a slow start, the game burst to life around the 20-minute mark. Noni Madueke played an excellent pass to Cole Palmer inside the Liverpool box, but he was quickly surrounded by three defenders bringing the attack to nothing.
The hosts quickly turned that move into a counter-attack, and Curtis Jones was fouled in the box by Colwill, giving Slot's men a golden opportunity.
Mohamed Salah stepped up to convert the spot-kick for his 7th goal of the season.
Liverpool's pace on the break caused Chelsea problems. An offside Salah nearly set up Cody Gakpo at the back post, but the flag went up.
As halftime approached, Liverpool claimed another penalty when Jones was taken down by Robert Sánchez. However, VAR intervened, confirming the goalkeeper got to the ball first.
Chelsea started the second half in much better fashion and were rewarded for their endeavors as Nicolas Jackson burst through Liverpool's defense early in the second half, slotting past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Their joy was short-lived though, as Salah's sweet cross found Jones, who timed his run perfectly and poked past Sánchez to restore Liverpool's lead.
The Blues tried their best but Liverpool's defence held firm for a crucial win.
