A study has revealed the Premier League’s most-criticised managers online, and there were some interesting rankings.
The 2024-25 Premier League kicked off with five clubs having new managers, and among those clubs are Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester, and West Ham United.
It is a popularly known fact that the PL is an unforgiven league and one of the most demanding, but it gets even more difficult if you are in charge of one of the traditional top-six clubs.
PL fans are often vocal online, and being the most followed league in the world means that there are more than enough fans that will echo several sentiments.
According to data gathered by Live Football Tickets, this PL season appears to be less favourable to new managers from the angle of fan sentiments.
Brighton, Liverpool, and Chelsea managers face backlash from online fans
Despite a promising start to the season, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler has found himself on the receiving end of significant online criticism from fans.
The German tactician, who took charge of the Seagulls in June, has already garnered 886 Reddit posts, filled with over 20,000 profane words. The most frequent term used to describe him is "hate," which appears a staggering 5,499 times.
Liverpool's new manager, Arne Slot, has also faced intense scrutiny from fans. Although the Reds are currently in the top two of the Premier League, 9,227 Reddit posts have been dedicated to the Dutch manager, containing over 166,000 profane words.
Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with Slot using terms like "hate" (43,110 times) and "disappointed" (30,175 times).
Everton manager Sean Dyche is third on the list of most-criticised managers, scoring 92.9 out of 100. The former English footballer has been the subject of nearly 13,000 Reddit posts, with over 278,000 profane words. Fans have used terms like "hate" (70,867 times), "disappointed" (48,675 times), and "angry" (45,684 times) to express their feelings about Dyche's tenure at the club.
Rounding off the top five are Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca.
The Cherries manager facilitated wins over last season’s top two, Manchester City and Arsenal, already, but it appears that fans are still not satisfied.
As for Maresca, he is leading the Blues’ top-four charge and transformed the team from last season’s poor showing. However, that has not saved him from criticism.
West Ham’s Lopetegui surprisingly bucks trend
Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes at the start of the season, is the least hated Premier League manager online, according to Live Football Tickets. He scored just 52.4/100 in the study, despite recent sack rumours following the team’s poor start to the season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is top five least hated PL manager online, with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, and Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou making up the top five.
