FKFPL: Kenyan international and Bidco United captain Stephen Waruru set to retire from football after Wazito clash
The hugely experienced striker made his name at Ulinzi Stars and also turned out for Sofapaka and KCB
Waruru has been active in football for the last 18 years since he joined Thika United in 2005. Thika was then a top-tier club before they were relegated in September 2018 after a 1-0 defeat to Nzoia Sugar.
After parting ways with Thika, he signed for Ulinzi Stars and it is at this club that he spent most of his time with. At Ulinzi Stars, who hosted their games at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru during Waruru's time, the forward won a major trophy with the clubs.
He became the Premier League champion with the Soldiers in 2010, which happened to be the club's last title in the top-tier. In 2011, the Thika-born striker was the Premier League's top scorer and emerged as the runner-up in the race to win the Most Valuable Player award.
Apart from domestic games, he took part in the East African Military Games that were held in 2017. After he left Ulinzi Stars in December 2017, he joined Sofapaka.
His departure from Ulinzi Stars meant that he resigned from the military and went back to civilian life. After leaving Batoto ba Mungu, he signed for KCB in June 2019.
