Ademola Lookman was in imperious form as Atalanta ripped Salernitana apart
Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman inspired Atalanta to a dominant 8-2 victory over Salernitana with a brace and an assist.
Lookman scored his first and Atalanta's second from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 to the hosts in the 20th minute and his second goal was scored in the 54th minute to make it 6-1.
The Super Eagles winger now has nine goals and two assists in Serie A this season, making him the joint-top scorer in the league behind only Victor Osimhen, his compatriot.
Atalanta 8-2 Salernitana
Atalanta ran riot with an 8-2 thrashing of Salernitana to continue their unbeaten start to 2023 and the rout started early when Ivorian winger Jeremie Boga opened the scoring in the fifth minute with his first league goal of the season.
Boulaye Dia levelled proceedings for Salernitana five minutes later but his goal only succeeded in angering the hosts who turned on the style.
Matteo Lovato’s momentary lapse in concentration handed Atalanta the chance from 12 yards, a penalty which was duly converted by Ademola Lookman in the 20th minute.
Atalanta needed just three more minutes to make it 3-1 when Teun Koopmeiners’ teasing delivery from the corner was powered home by Giorgio Scalvini.
Koopmeiners went from provider to scorer in the 38th minute after being presented the chance from the spot which he missed but was on hand to convert the rebound after which Rasmus Hojlund made it 5 before half-time.
Lookman made it six just nine minutes after the break to seal his brace but Hans Nicolussi responded immediately for Salernitana to make it 6-2
Substitute Ederson made it seven off an assist from Lookman and then Nadir Zortea rounded off the scoring to rub salt into Salernitana's wounds by making it 8-2.
