The Nigerian superstar was conspicuously absent from the September Player of the Month nominees list
Serie A has officially revealed the six nominees for the September Player of the Month award, and despite his consistent form, Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman is not among the contenders.
Serie A name September Player of the Month contenders
The month of September saw three thrilling rounds of action in Italy’s top flight, with high-profile matches like the Milan derby and Juventus' clash with Napoli, making the competition for the award fierce.
Among the six nominees are some of Serie A's top performers, including Juventus’ Bremer, Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic all of whom made the cut.
Bologna’s Santiago Castro and Como’s Patrick Cutrone also earned spots among the nominees after scoring three goals each during September.
Advanced stats leave out Lookman
According to Serie A, “The six players have been selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system.”
Unfortunately, for Lookman, this system did not consider him worthy of a place among the Serie A’s best players for the month of September, despite his impressive performances.
Lookman scored two goals and provided an assist in three matches for Atalanta during the period in question but still did not do enough to be considered a potential Player of the Month winner.
The Super Eagles star has already started off October the right way, albeit in the Champions League, where he scored and assisted for Atalanta in their 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
