Lucas Moura will leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of this season after the north London club decided against renewing his contract.
Tottenham had a deadline of December 31 to communicate to Moura they wanted to extend his deal, which expires at the end of June, and that has now passed. The club has decided to move on after five and a half seasons.
Moura to leave Spurs on a free transfer
According to The Athletic, Lucas Moura does not want to leave Spurs in January as he will be a free agent come the summer, something which will enable him to move for a higher salary and potentially a better project.
The 30-year-old joined Tottenham in January 2018 and is content to leave the club after more than five years of service.
Moura is not in negotiations with any other clubs at the moment and will meet his representatives in London over the coming weeks to establish his next move. The forward is open to his next destination, but a return to Brazil is not thought to be a priority at this stage.
The former Sao Paulo winger has made 213 appearances for Spurs so far, scoring 38 goals. Among the most memorable of those will be the hat-trick Moura scored in Tottenham’s incredible 3-2 comeback victory in the second leg of their 2019 Champions League semi-final against Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
What next for Tottenham?
Tottenham have had a rough patch since the Premier League resumed. Their first three league games after the World Cup included a disappointing 2-2 draw with Brentford followed by an insipid display in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Manager, Antonio Conte will hope his players can follow up the 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend with another special performance when they host Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday.
