What happened
The Herons were down 2-0 on aggregate before the Argentine ignited the comeback with his 35th-minute strike. Noah Allen scored in the 61st minute to make it 2-2, and Messi scored a penalty in the 84th minute to put Javier Mascherano’s side ahead.
The diminutive playmaker dominated the match, and in the 88th minute, a frustrated Marlon Santos lashed out with a poor tackle on Messi, which led to a scuffle, as Inter Miami players charged him in defence of their captain, and LAFC players ran interference.
Amid the melee, Suarez was captured in a clip biting the hand of Alba, seemingly assuming the hand of the ex-Spain international tugging him was that of an opponent.
Suarez’s biting history
The clip showed him immediately unclench his jaw after realising he was biting an ally; still, it brings to the fore all the previous incidents in which the Uruguayan had unleashed his teeth on the flesh of unsuspecting players.
The first recorded incident in European football was when he was slapped with a seven-match ban by the Dutch FA in 2010 for biting PSV’s Otman Bakkal in an Ajax game.
The next happened in the Premier League. Suarez bit Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, earning a 10-match ban. The most infamous of all, and most recent to date, happened at the World Cup, when Suarez buried his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulders in Uruguay's 2014 World Cup Group Stage game against Italy.
