Alexis Mac Allister was sent off on his home debut but that did not stop Liverpool from beating Bournemouth to kickstart their Premier league campaign
Liverpool new boy Alexis Mac Allister ended his home debut on a sour note, getting sent off just before the hour mark at Anfield as Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners over Bournemouth.
Goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Diogo Jota were enough to help Liverpool overcome an early setback against Burnmouth and claim their first three points of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
How it happened
Liverpool got off to a nightmare start as they conceded after only three minutes when former Liverpool youngster Dominic Solanke profited from a Trent Alexander-Arnold error to tee up Antoine Semenyo to give Bournemouth a shock lead.
The Reds did well to recover from the Early blow and back on level terms just before the half-hour mark when Luis Diaz finished smartly to make it 1-1.
Liverpool were given a chance to enter the break in the lead when Joe Rothwell fouled another Anfield debutant Dominik Szoboszlai in the box to gift the hosts a penalty.
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah stepped up to take the penalty but missed for the second time in his last four attempts for the Reds.
Salah, however, recovered to squeeze the rebound past Neto, who saved the initial spot kick, to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead going into the break.
The Reds were dominant from the start of the second half, but disaster struck after the restart as MacAllister picked a straight red card for a terrible foul and was sent off, leaving Liverpool to tackle the rest of the match with 10 men.
The 10-men of Liverpool were undaunted by the seding off, and only four minutes after MacAllister left the pitch, Jota doubled The Reds’ advantage, making it 3-1 to the hosts and giving them some breathing room.
