Parma seized the initiative early on, as Romanian winger Valentin Mihaila teed up Enrico Del Prato, who beat Maduka Okoye and slotted home with precision.
The Nigerian goalkeeper was forced into action again in the 15th minute when Dennis Man's driven effort forced him into a sharp save, but Udinese's early woes did not deter them.
They pressed on, and soon reaped rewards. As the half drew to a close, Udinese's adventurousness backfired, allowing Dennis to carve out space on the right wing and pick out Ange-Yoan Bonny, who expertly turned his marker and poked home Parma's second.
The visitors responded swiftly after the break, with Hassane Kamara's inviting cross headed home by Lorenzo Lucca. Udinese's persistence paid off again just shy of the 70th minute, as Florian Thauvin levelled proceedings with a clinical header from Keinan Davis's delivery.
Parma's fortunes took a turn for the worse when Mandela Keita received his marching orders, leaving them a man down for the final 15 minutes. Udinese capitalised swiftly, with Thauvin converting the rebound from Jurgen Ekkelenkamp's saved effort to snatch the lead. Despite a valiant effort, the hosts couldn't overcome the numerical disadvantage, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.
