Parma seized the initiative early on, as Romanian winger Valentin Mihaila teed up Enrico Del Prato, who beat Maduka Okoye and slotted home with precision.
The Nigerian goalkeeper was forced into action again in the 15th minute when Dennis Man's driven effort forced him into a sharp save, but Udinese's early woes did not deter them.

Parma's fortunes took a turn for the worse when Mandela Keita received his marching orders, leaving them a man down for the final 15 minutes. Udinese capitalised swiftly, with Thauvin converting the rebound from Jurgen Ekkelenkamp's saved effort to snatch the lead. Despite a valiant effort, the hosts couldn't overcome the numerical disadvantage, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.
