Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera extended a warm welcome to the national football teams of Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Zambia on Thursday evening at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The occasion marked a delightful dinner gathering ahead of the anticipated Four Nations Tournament in the capital Lilongwe.

The prestigious event saw players and officials from the participating nations come together for an evening of camaraderie and cultural exchange.

Amidst the grandeur of the presidential palace, the teams were treated not only to a sumptuous dinner but also to captivating performances by renowned musician Lawi and the National Dance Troupe.

Expressing his delight at hosting the esteemed guests, President Chakwera emphasized the unifying power of football in bridging divides and fostering partnerships among nations.

"I and the First Lady feel honored to break bread with football royalty from the region," remarked President Chakwera. "Football connects and breaks barriers among nations."

Fleetwood Haiya, President of the Football Association of Malawi, commended President Chakwera for his unwavering commitment to sports development in the country.

"This is a demonstration of commitment from Your Excellency towards the development of sports in the country," Haiya remarked.

Yvonne Mapika-Manwa, representing the Zimbabwe Football Association, expressed gratitude on behalf of the teams for the gracious hospitality extended by President Chakwera.

"On behalf of the three teams, I thank you for taking time to host us by opening your home to us," she said.

The Four Nations Tournament holds immense significance for all participating teams, serving as a crucial preparatory platform for upcoming World Cup qualifiers in June.

Additionally, the tournament provides an invaluable opportunity for Under-20 teams to fine-tune their skills ahead of the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year.

As the teams savored the evening's festivities and exchanged pleasantries, the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship prevailed, reaffirming the pivotal role of football in fostering friendship and cooperation among nations.

With the Four Nations Tournament poised to kick off, football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate exhilarating matches and memorable moments on the pitch, fueled by the bonds of friendship forged at the presidential dinner.
