French centreback Williams Saliba has broken his silence ahead of the crunch encounter between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad.

Arsenal defender William Saliba has made it clear that the Gunners' goal for this season is not merely to finish second in the Premier League but to clinch the coveted championship title.

Ahead of their crucial clash against title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Saliba expressed his determination to surpass last season's achievements.

"Last season we didn't lose against them, so I don't think about revenge like this, but they won the league last season and the season before.

"It's more about us because the Premier League is not just against City, it's against all the teams, so we have to be focused on ourselves because there are a lot of games," Saliba said on Arsenal's website.

The young Frenchman emphasised the team's desire to win the league, stating, "We all want to achieve something. Winning this Premier League is not easy, but when you finish twice second, you want to win.

"We will give everything, even more than last season, because we don't want to finish second, third or fourth. We want to win this league and we'll give everything."

In their previous three encounters with Manchester City, Arsenal have suffered zero defeat - winning and drawing two matches.

As both teams prepare for a highly anticipated showdown, the battle for the Premier League title is set to intensify.
