Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has pleaded for patience as he works to improve young talent and return the club to its glory days.

Erik ten Hag's Manchester United are 11th in the Premier League after last weekend's 0-0 draw against Palace and followed that result with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Twente in the Europa League.

They have scored just 5 goals in 5 league games this season, and look way off the top-four race after just 5 games.

Ten Hag, who has overseen a transfer spend of £600m in five windows, insists he needs time to get the best out of his squad.

“You have to assess the situation,” the manager said.

“Still we are working and are in progress. We have chosen to sign young players, like last year Højlund, like this year Zirkzee, Yoro – players who we believe in at this moment and also for the future and we have to build them.”

United finished 8th in the league last season, their lowest finish since 1992, something the manager cannot afford to repeat.

His next task is the visit of Tottenham to Old Trafford this weekend, and after a tough week, the fans will be hoping for a turnaround.
