According to reports, Manchester United have increased their offer for Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund.

Erik ten Hag has made Hojlund his primary target during the summer transfer window as he looks to bolster his attack for next season.

After Cristiano Ronaldo's contract was terminated in November as a result of an interview in which he criticised the team from top to bottom, United has been keen to sign a striker.

They have been linked to several names including Tottenham forward Harry Kane. However, they have made a move for the Atalanta striker and have seen their first bid rejected by the Italian outfit.

United are not relenting on signing Hojlund this summer and have sent an improved bid for the Denmark international.

The Sun cited transfer insider Fabrizio Romano as saying that Manchester United increased their bid following a direct conversation.

Negotiations with the Serie A team are still going on despite United's current offer of €60 million (£51 million).

According to Fabrizio on Twitter, “Manchester United improved their bid to Atalanta during direct talks today — it will be more than €60m package 🚨🔴.

“Understand negotiations are still on — Man United want to close the deal ASAP to focus on other positions right after. Højlund, very clear. He wants United.”

The Red Devils are eager to complete the signing of the Danish international before the start of the new season.

United have maintained they won't pay more than £60 million for the centre-forward, Atalanta have previously asked for an outrageous £86 million for the 20-year-old.
