Manchester United lost 3-2 to Galatasaray in their UEFA Champions League Group A encounter.
Galatasaray came back from behind twice to beat Manchester United 3-2 on a thrilling night at Old Trafford.
How it happened
United looked lively in the opening stages and Rasmus Højlund provided positive early signs with a strong run to get past Sacha Boey and across that found Bruno Fernandes, which came to nothing.
Højlund made no mistake when the roles were reversed though, as Marcus Rashford raced onto Casemiro’s pass and squared the ball for the Dane to head home his second goal in as many UCL matches.
The Red Devils’ lead only lasted six minutes, though, as Wilfried Zaha scored the fourth goal in five games against his former club to send his new supporters into raptures.
United continued to attack and Hojlund saw a goal ruled out for offside but he was not to be denied in the second half as he took advantage of Davinson Sanchez's slip to speed through and score.
Again, Gala equalised almost immediately, with Kerem Aktürkoğlu latching onto Barış Yılmaz’s pass and coolly slotting his shot past a helpless Onana.
As the game became more open, more drama ensued as the shocking Onana conceded possession and Casemiro was sent off for diving in on Dries Mertens, giving away a penalty that Mauro Icardi sent wide.
Despite the miss, the Argentine provided the winning goal dinking over Onana to give Galatasaray their first UCL win since 2018.
