Crystal Palace stunned Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium with two late goals to steal an unlikely point
Manchester City's poor run of form continued with a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon and this result will be particularly frustrating because the Cityzens were 2-nil up.
The champions appeared to be headed for yet another routine home win as they led thanks to goals in either half by Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis up until the 76th minute when Palace pulled one back and then scored the 95th-minute equaliser.
The result continued Crystal Palace's recent run of good fortune at the Etihad Stadium where they have now won and drawn two games each in their last six visits.
Manchester City 2-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace got off to a positive start against a Manchester City forward line which was missing talisman Erling Haaland and they kept his deputy Julian Alvarez at bay.
Their resolve was eventually broken in the 24th minute via Jack Grealish’s clinical first-time finish into the bottom corner after being picked out by Phil Foden.
City continued to dominate as expected through the first half, missing chances which they would go on to regret but not before they doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Rico Lewis scored his first Premier League goal.
City appeared to be coasting but were brought back to reality as a long Palace ball over the back line released Jeffrey Schlupp, who fired a ball across the box for Mateta to tap into an empty net.
The drama crescendoed when Foden fouled Mateta in the box, allowing Michael Olise to step up to bury the resulting spot-kick in the 95th minute and secure a famous point for Palace.
