Manchester United have identified a key player for their manager after Brighton's defeat.

Manchester United have initiated discussions to acquire Danish-born Nigerian left-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford.

This loss was United's fourth defeat in their last five home matches, intensifying pressure on manager Ruben Amorim to strengthen the squad as they navigate a challenging season.

A report from the Athletic indicates that Manchester United has begun formal negotiations with Lecce regarding Dorgu, who is seen as a vital addition to address the club's left wing-back issues.

Although no agreement has been reached yet, the talks are moving forward as United seeks to bolster their roster ahead of the January transfer window.

Dorgu, who has made 43 first-team appearances since joining Lecce from Norway two years ago, has impressed this season with three goals and one assist in 20 matches.

At just 20 years old, Dorgu has already earned four caps for Denmark and extended his contract with Lecce until 2028.

However, his potential move to Manchester United could materialise this winter as Amorim looks for solutions to improve the team's performance on the pitch.

The young talent is valued at approximately €50 million, making him an attractive target not only for United but also for other top clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool, who are reportedly monitoring his situation closely.

Following the defeat to Brighton, Amorim expressed frustration over the team's lack of consistency and performance levels.

He acknowledged that the squad was underperforming and noted the need for reinforcements to implement his tactical vision effectively.

The urgency of these discussions reflects Manchester United's desire to turn their season around and regain competitiveness in both domestic and European competitions.
