Sir Alex Ferguson's wife Cathy has passed away aged 84 leaving behind her husband and three sons.
The Ferguson family issued a statement on the passing of beloved Cathy, which read:
Sir Alex Ferguson's wife Cathy passes away
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday [Thursday] of Lady Cathy Ferguson, survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family asks for privacy at this time.”
Alex and Cathy met in 1964 and were married two years later.
The couple gave birth to Mark two years later, followed by twins Darren and Jason in 1972.
During Ferguson's career as Manchester United manager, Cathy offered tremendous support before he stepped down and retired from football in 2013.
