The Red Devils are interested in signing the player who played a quite peripheral role last term.

After a failed opening offer, Manchester United are preparing their second bid for Chelsea star Mason Mount.

Their second bid for the England international is reportedly £50 million, which is an improvement from the £40 million that was tabled earlier.

Since he broke through in the 2019/20 season, Mount has become one of the most promising playmakers in the Premier League. He did not have an impressive outing in the season that concluded, but he remains one of the players linked to several clubs.

In 35 games, Mount had three goals and six assists, although the Blues generally struggled and missed a ticket to European football.

He now faces an uncertain future after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Despite that, United want to sign him and are preparing to approach Chelsea for more talks.

He has been linked with the Red Devils since it became quite clear that his future does not lie at Chelsea.

The midfielder is understood to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, so personal terms will not be an issue at all.

Although United are heading to the next round of talks, it is not clear whether Chelsea will accept a £50 million bid for the 24-year-old.

Should the two clubs fail to agree on a valuation for Mount, then a summer deal might not be possible. If that happens, then United can wait until the summer of 2024 and then sign the England international for free.
