While speculation around Atalanta’s Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman grows, the Super Eagles star is not on the immediate wishlist of the Red Devils with the January transfer window looming.
Manchester United eye January move for Atalanta star
As the winter transfer window approaches, Atalanta’s 25-year-old midfielder Ederson has emerged as a top target for Manchester United.
The Brazilian midfielder has drawn attention from multiple European giants; however, reports suggest Manchester United are the frontrunners, with the club’s hierarchy fully endorsing a move for the Atalanta star.
Seen as a potentially key piece to bolster their midfield, Ederson could be the Red Devils’ perfect replacement for the ageing Casemiro, who has started to show signs of wear and tear.
Despite Manchester United’s interest, a January transfer for Ederson is unlikely, as Atalanta remain keen to keep Ederson amid a potential title charge.
Lookman not Manchester United’s priority
While Manchester United are also monitoring Lookman, Atalanta’s Nigerian forward is not in the club’s immediate plans.
Lookman, fresh off being crowned CAF African Men’s Footballer of the Year, has been in scintillating form, netting 12 goals and providing five assists in 20 appearances this season.
While Lookman could be seen as a viable replacement for the wantaway Marcus Rashford should he depart, Manchester United’s focus remains on Ederson for now.
Atalanta, for their part, have not received any formal enquiries for Lookman, but his form could attract suitors in the January window, with several clubs eyeing a move for the Nigerian star.
