FA Cup finalists Manchester United have included troubled forward Mason Greenwood in their post-season squad list, indicating the continuity of the 21-year-old at the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Manchester United list 78 retained players without De Gea

The Red Devils released a list of 78 players across its various tiers who remain signed on to the club after the 2022/23 season and who are expected to be part of the organisation at the start of the new season, which kicks off in a few weeks.

They also said goodbye to players like Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, who will be leaving the club at the end of their current contracts, while also leaving out goalkeeper David De Gea, who is still negotiating a contract extension that should see him remain at the club for a few more seasons.

In their list for the 2023/24 season, Manchester United have opted to include Greenwood despite the striker remaining under suspension since his arrest in January 2022.

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but has since had the charges dropped against him after key witnesses to the case decided not to press further with their testimony.

Despite the charges against Greenwood being dropped, he remains suspended from football activities while the club conducts its own investigations.

This has not stopped him from being part of the club’s retained list, although his presence on the list is not an indication that he will be welcomed back into the first-team squad in the new season.

The striker could still continue his ongoing suspension or could be sold or loaned out during the transfer window depending on the outcome of Manchester United’s disciplinary processes.
