FA Cup final preparations for the Red Devils has hit a snag with their in-form striker set to miss the Manchester City showdown
Manchester United's preparations for their FA Cup final against crosstown rivals Manchester City have been destabilised by an injury to striker Anthony Martial, who will now be ruled out of the crucial title decider through injury.
Manchester United to face Manchester City without Martial
Manchester United are due to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final in a bid to prevent their neighbours from winning a historic treble, which will equal the Red Devils’ achievement from 1999.
Their quest to stop Manchester City’s treble took a major knock after forward, Martial picked up yet another injury, which will now rule him out of the FA Cup final.
The Frenchman had only recently returned from a three-month injury layoff, only to succumb to another fitness setback against Fulham in the last game of the Premier League season.
Weghorst to lead Manchester United in FA Cup final
Martial had started to return to good form after his initial injury layoff, scoring in two of the last three games before the Fulham game, and his injury will come as a blow to Manchester United’s chances on Sunday.
The club released a statement, saying, “The France international strained his hamstring towards the end of Sunday’s 2-1 win against Fulham at Old Trafford.
“Assessments have since revealed a muscle tear that rules the 27-year-old out of the Wembley showdown.”
In Martial’s absence, Manchester United are likely to bank on Dutch forward Wout Weghorst to play up front against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
