Alejandro Garnacho's goal against Everton was deemed the best goal of the last year at the FIFA The Best award ceremony

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has won the FIFA Puskas Award for 2024 for his stunning bicycle kick goal against Everton in November 2023.

The announcement came at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Doha, Qatar, where Garnacho’s strike was officially recognised as the finest goal worldwide during the qualifying period of August 2023 to August 2024.

Garnacho’s stunner claims award

Garnacho’s goal was a masterpiece of technique, athleticism, and timing. Early in the game at Goodison Park, Diogo Dalot delivered a teasing cross, and Garnacho, with extraordinary agility, launched himself into the air to execute a perfectly timed bicycle kick.

The ball flew past a helpless Jordan Pickford and nestled into the top corner, leaving the Everton defence and fans stunned.

The Argentine’s incredible effort was met with widespread praise, not only securing Manchester United’s Goal of the Season but also earning the Premier League’s Goal of the Campaign award for 2023/24.

It was a strike that echoed the legendary goals of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who remains the only other Manchester United player to have won the prestigious award.

Onuachu loses Puskas award to Garnacho

While Garnacho emerged victorious, Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu also made headlines for his stunning scorpion kick goal against Konyaspor during his loan spell at Trabzonspor.

The crucial goal saw Onuachu delivering an improvised and acrobatic finish to secure victory for Tranzondpor against Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

Despite the quality of Onuachu’s strike, voters decided that Garnacho’s strike was the more worthy goal for the prestigious Puskas award.

The Puskas Award, named after football icon Ferenc Puskas, continues to celebrate the artistry of football goals, regardless of league or occasion, and Garnacho’s breathtaking bicycle kick was enough to secured his place in football history.
