Wolves have parted ways with manager Julien Lopetegui, leaving Manchester United's plans for the start of the season in turmoil
Premier League giants Manchester United will be concerned about their start to the 2023/24 campaign being thrown into chaos after their first adversaries, Wolves, announced that they have parted ways with manager Julien Lopetegui.
Wolves part ways with Lopetegui
Despite being just days away from the start of the new Premier League season, Wolves announced that they had reached an agreement with the Spanish gaffer to part ways, leaving them managerless at the start of the campaign.
Lopetegui joined the Wanderers from Sevilla in November 2022 and helped them to an improbable 13th place in the Premier League after replacing Bruno Lage at the helm of affairs, but he will not lead the team into the 2023/24 season.
The former Real Madrid manager held talks with Wolves on Tuesday, hoping to come to terms on several issues that had impacted his time at the club, including the failure to replace key players who departed this summer.
Manchester United to face managerless Wolves
Lopetegui and Wolves were unable to come to terms and the meeting ended with two sides agreeing to part ways.
According to reports from the BBC, Wolves will now look to replace Lopetegui with former Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil.
With Lopetegui out of Wolves, Manchester United, who face Wolves in their opening game of the Premier League season, will be left guessing how their opponents will set up in the first match of the season.
