Osimhen set for summer move
The Super Eagles international was expected to leave Napoli for a top European club last summer, with PSG and Chelsea the most advanced in negotiations.
However, the finances required to complete the deal put off both clubs, as well as others like Arsenal and Manchester United that did not bother entering into concrete talks.
The major bone of contention was the Nigerian’s €130 million release clause. However, that figure has now been slashed following the contract extension he signed before joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
What Giovanni Manna said
The Napoli director confirmed that the updated release clause is €70 million and maintained that they were uninterested in budging on that fee.
This meant Galatasaray, who Pulse Sports reported were looking to make a deal involving players to sign the Nigerian permanently.
Manna does not expect any major complications in getting that fee for Osimhen next summer, as he revealed that many clubs who were willing to match the number were already in talks with them for the 25-year-old.
“Our door is closed to negotiations,” he said, per Webaslan. “Galatasaray does not have the budget to pay this amount at this moment. The fee is €75 million, there are many teams that want Osimhen. They are ready to pay this amount.”
Meanwhile, Osimhen remains focused on impressing in his loan stint at Galatasaray. He currently leads the team in goals and has helped them to their best season in 26 years. Also, Super Eagles legend John Obi-Mikel confirmed that Chelsea will return for Osimhen, and Manna’s comments mean they will face some competition to sign the former Lille man.
