Rumors of a shirt sponsor could spur Wazito into a spirited fight to prove their worth.
Twelve-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards hope to prey on a feeble Wazito fc and keep pace with Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) leading pack when the two sides lock horns at Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Sitting in 17th place on the league table, coach Charles Odera and company have the arduous task of steering the club out of the relegation zone.
Wazito are currently on a two-match losing streak with Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks getting the better of the Muhoroni-based outfit over the last ten days.
They have also been struggling away this season, particularly since January. In the last six away games, Wazito succumbed to six defeats, recording one win and two draws during this time.
On the other hand, Wazito could be a well-rested team as they did not participate in the Mozzart Bet Cup this past weekend.
Against Ingwe, Wazito will look to capitalize on coach Patrick Aussems' hectic schedule.
AFC Leopards have 29 points from 17 games and hope to bank three from this winnable fixture and claim 5th place on the log albeit until Police also play their 18th fixture..
Ingwe extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with victory over KCB on February 26. The twelve-time Kenyan champions have claimed 12 points from seven home matches in the 2022/2023 campaign.
Leopard's assistant coach Tom Juma is optimistic Ingwe can beat Wazito, who defeated them in the season's first leg.
“Our targets have never changed, and neither has our focus. We are lined up to face Wazito FC at home in a mid-week match on Thursday, and we want to win.
Hopefully, we will take those three points, and slowly we can evaluate ourselves at the end of the season where our point-tally will put us on the table,” Juma said.
In head-to-head stats, AFC Leopards and Wazito have met in 11 league matches since the 2018/2019 season.
Ingwe have claimed seven wins compared to three for Wazito, while one match has been drawn. Ingwe has recorded one win, a loss, and a draw from their three home matches in the rivalry.
When the teams met earlier this season, at Muhoroni StadiumJanuary 14th, Wazito claimed a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Clinton Otieno and Collins Neto. At the same time, Ingwe found the back of the net courtesy of Victor Omune's strike.
