Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is among key players who have been left out of England’s squad for Euro 2024 following a poor campaign with Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson have been left out of England's provisional Euro 2024 squad.
The two seasoned internationals are notably absent from Gareth Southgate’s 33-player roster announced for the Three Lions' upcoming training camp on Tuesday.
Rashford, who plays for Manchester United, had a challenging season, managing to score only eight goals across all competitions. His exclusion marks a significant decision by Southgate, given Rashford’s usual presence in the squad.
Henderson also misses out after a turbulent season. The former Liverpool captain moved to Saudi side Al-Ettifaq last summer and later transferred to Ajax in January. However, he was restricted to just 12 appearances, impacting his form and fitness.
Joining Rashford and Henderson on the sidelines are Chelsea players Reece James, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell, all of whom have been left out of the squad.
In a notable inclusion, 19-year-old Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has made the cut. Mainoo had an impressive season, featuring in 31 matches for the Red Devils. He is joined by Liverpool youngsters Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones.
Crystal Palace is well-represented with four players: Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, Dean Henderson, and 20-year-old Adam Wharton, who joined from Blackburn in January.
Goalkeeper James Trafford is also included, alongside Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Dean Henderson, making up the four goalkeepers in the squad.
Other players set to be involved are Jack Grealish, Lewis Dunk, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarrod Bowen, Anthony Gordon, James Maddison, and Ivan Toney. Luke Shaw, who has been battling fitness issues, has been deemed fit enough to join the initial squad.
Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who many expected to be part of Southgate’s plans, has been omitted, as has Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.
England fans will watch with keen interest as Southgate finalizes his squad, hoping the blend of youth and experience can lead the team to glory at Euro 2024.
