Chelsea recorded a fifth straight league victory, reducing Liverpool's lead to two points, courtesy of goals from Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca emphasised the need for his team to improve their game management and handle pressure more effectively following Marc Cucurella's late red card in their 2-1 victory over Brentford.

The Blues secured their fifth consecutive league win, closing the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just two points, thanks to goals from Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson.

However, the victory was marred by a late Brentford goal and Cucurella's dismissal in the final moments after an altercation with Brentford forward Kevin Schade.

Cucurella received a second yellow card for what was deemed "adopting an aggressive attitude." This incident contributes to Chelsea's league-leading tally of 50 yellow cards this season.

What Maresca said

Maresca acknowledged the need for improvement in managing the final stages of games.

"For sure the goal we concede, and the last part of the game, it is something we need to manage better.

"I think it's experience for the players to learn and to improve things," he said via Reuters.

He added, "But overall, with the spirit of the team, we know that sometimes it can happen. With the second (yellow) one, it's probably not the correct thing to do, but these are things we need to improve."

Chelsea will host Shamrock Rovers on Thursday in the UEFA Conference League at Stamford Bridge.
