The Blues and the Bees played out a stalemate at the Gtech Community Stadium, with most of the attacking action unfolding in the second half following the introduction of substitutes like Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.

What Maresca said

Maresca explained that the decision to start without some key players was a deliberate tactical approach, designed to manage the team's energy levels after a demanding clash against Tottenham less than 72 hours prior.

He said, "Overall we played a good game. We prepared the game in the way it was, in terms of starting one way and finishing the other way.

"We played Thursday night, a demanding game, 24 hours less than them. Tricky stadium, a sunny day, the pitch was dry, and they tried to kill the tempo of the game.

"Despite not finding the back of the net, Maresca felt his side did enough to secure a win. ‘Overall we did enough to win the game. We shot more than 20 times. The only thing we missed was the goal, but overall I’m happy with the performance.

"When you are not able to win, it’s important you don’t lose, you take the point and you move the table."

Maresca detailed the reasoning behind his five pre-match changes and how the plan unfolded during the match.

While Chelsea couldn't secure all three points, Maresca's explanation highlighted a tactical approach geared towards managing player fatigue and ultimately aiming for a stronger finish to the match.
