The Chelsea boss heaped praise on one of his players after several commendable performances this term.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has lauded the performances of young midfielder Romeo Lavia while also suggesting that the 20-year-old has even greater potential to fulfil.
Lavia has impressed with his displays in Chelsea's midfield this season, having overcome injury setbacks that hampered his progress last year.
His performances have generated excitement among fans and justified the faith shown in him by several top clubs, including Manchester City and Southampton.
What Maresca said about Lavia
Maresca, who previously coached Lavia during their time together at Man City’s youth academy, has firsthand knowledge of the midfielder's talent.
He expressed his satisfaction with Lavia's progress but believes there is still significant room for improvement.
"Romeo is doing very well with us, but because I know him well, he can do much better," Maresca stated. "I am very happy with Romeo, but he can do better because he is a top player."
Maresca emphasised that Lavia's age means he still has many aspects of his game to develop.
“The only thing is he is 20 so has to improve many things,” said the Chelsea head coach. “So we are very happy with him, he is doing fantastic but he can improve many things.
“Romeo didn’t play against Leicester, so two games ago he was on the bench, but because he’s on the bench, that doesn’t mean we’re not happy and he’s not doing well.
“It’s the game plan that’s changed for the game. We are completely happy with Romeo.”
