The Blues have received the best news possible before their Premier League visit to Liverpool.

Chelsea have received a major boost with the return of their captain, Reece James, to first-team training following a hamstring injury.

Hamstrung James

The defender has been sidelined since sustaining the injury during the club's pre-season tour of the United States and has yet to feature in a competitive match this season.

James had been diligently working towards his recovery with individual training sessions, but a minor setback a few weeks ago delayed his return to full training.

Now back with his teammates, the focus shifts to when he will be deemed ready for first-team action.

In his absence, Malo Gusto has impressed at right-back, while Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi have also been utilised in that position by manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea's strong start to the season, with four wins and two draws in their opening seven Premier League games, may give Maresca the luxury of easing James back into the fold.

James's injury history is a cause for concern, as the 24-year-old has struggled with hamstring problems in recent seasons. He managed to start only five Premier League games last season after undergoing surgery in December to address a persistent issue in his left leg.

What next for James and Chelsea?

Chelsea's next match is against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, October 20 following the international break.

While it remains to be seen if James will be involved in that fixture, his return to training is a positive development for both the player and the club as they enter a challenging run of fixtures.
