The Red Devils are paying millions to ensure Greenwood settles in Spain and gets his career back on track

Manchester United will go to great lengths to help Mason Greenwood get his career back on track as apart from funding a big part of his weekly wages while he will be on loan at LaLiga side Getafe, they will also foot his accommodation bills in Spain.

Greenwood joined Getafe on transfer deadline day on Friday, after agreeing a one-year loan deal from United but the Red Devils will still be heavily be involved in his career as he seeks to get back on track.

According to British outlet The Sun, United will be covering the £8,000 (Ksh1.4 million)-a-month cost of a six-bedroom villa close to Getafe’s training ground and a translator that is available 24/7 to Greenwood. This is besides covering a substantial part of his £75,000 (Ksh13.7 million)-a week wages.

The outlet also claims that visits from friends and family will also be funded by the Red Devils, with Greenwood’s father and agent Andrew Greenwood expected to move in with his son soon.

The player was charged by Greater Manchester police with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault in October 2022 after allegations were made online.

The charges were dropped in February when the Crown Prosecution Service said there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation and new evidence had come to light. Greenwood denied all charges.

Last month, United announced Greenwood would leave the club by mutual consent after months of what the Red Devils termed ‘internal investigations’.

Greenwood has not played for United since January 22, 2022, in a 1-0 win against West Ham at Old Trafford.

Following Greenwood’s departure, United said: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.”

“The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

Getafe have defended their decision to acquire Greenwood, while the player is reported not to have given up on his Old Trafford career as he is contracted to United until 2025 with the option of a further year.
