Quizzed about the next chapter, Matano appeared to  suggest he would be staying in order to help the club win more trophies.

Tusker head coach Robert Matano has insisted his side must have the hunger and desire to want more after his side lost two trophies in one week to cap off a very forgettable season for the brewers faithful.

Tusker lost the title by one point at the expense of Gor Mahia, before losing 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz in the final of the Mozzart Bet Cup.

Despite allegations suggesting Matano is set to depart the club, with sources close to Pulse Sports Kenya saying he went to have an interview with Bandari FC whilst the club were in the middle of a title race, his post-match sentiments at the end of the Homeboyz loss suggested he is set to stay.

Matano insists on looking for “characters who can sustain pressure” in order to make the club move from being a “nearly” team to one that actually wins both trophies next season.

“It is very sad but we have to go back and reflect and sign players with character and sustain pressure. We have played football like we did not have players that can sustain pressure.

“We need strong characters who can sustain pressure and have the desire to win. We are a little short of that.”

Quizzed about the next chapter, Matano appeared to  suggest he would be staying in order to help the club win more trophies.

“We will sit down, analyze and see where we need to strengthen and look for quality players who can help us push forward but otherwise, we have struggled and tried to work with what we have.”

In 2022, Matano insisted he would be leaving the club after helping them deliver the title from the now-voided season, citing “a lack of respect” from an unnambed official of the board.

“"I have struggled with this team and I don't think I will be here anymore. I will certainly leave. I am not respected in this team at all. There is someone who doesn't want me here but I am happy I have proved him wrong, " he said.

However, he retracted his sentiments, saying that he would not be leaving

"Things have changed since last  when I said what I said," Matano told "It was true, but things have started changing and it will be fair to the club too if I listen to them.

"I talked and they reacted, so I have also changed my mind and I will not be leaving."
