The Slum Boys are still in relegation places with six matches to go.

Mathare United head coach Collins 'Korea' Omondi has attributed his side's performance against Bidco United on Sunday to the poor fitness levels of his players.

The Slum Boys succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Kasarani Annex thanks to Samuel Ndungu’s brace and a goal from Batts Awita.

In an interview with Pulse Sports, Korea said his side lacked match fitness, and it might need more time to get players to a level where he wants them to be.

“We played our worst game today. We lost concentration in the last five minutes of the first half and the last 20 minutes of the second stanza, which is an issue to do with fitness.

To be able to execute their actions and be consistent in playing the way we want, it seems it will take time, and at this stage, I can't sign new players," he said.

Mathare has not won any of their last seven matches, and Korea, who took over the team at the beginning of the month, remains optimistic that Mathare will avoid the chop.

“We need to come up with a solution in the remaining games, and that is we need to win every game so that we can remain afloat, and to do that, we must build up the players' physical strength.

“The time is concise since the fixtures are congested, but with some magic, we can do that,” he added.

The game against Bidco was Korea’s second loss in a row, losing his maiden match 2-1 to Gor Mahia.

The experienced coach replaced Boniface Omondi, who was sacked in February over a string of poor results with Samuel Koko reverting back to goalkeeping coach after being the interim.

The Slum Boys are currently 16th with 22 points from 28 matches. They have won seven, drawn one, and lost in 20.
