The hosts should have claimed the lead in the third minute when a mistake in defence from United’s Fidel Otieno allowed Abubakar Okwi to run in on goal, goalkeeper Samuel Njung'e directed his compatriot’s shot away for a corner kick.
On 22 minutes the hosts threatened again, with James Mutuku teeing up Okwi to shoot from just inside the penalty, but the attacker pulled his effort narrowly wide of Njung'e’s right-hand post.
Kajiado had to pay for their early misses when United claimed the lead in the 20th minute. Steve Kimari marked his return to the starting team by scoring the opener after some excellent work from Mark Khadohi, who set him up for his first goal of the campaign.

STARS ABROAD Why Harambee Stars forward moved between clubs before joining Ronaldo in dollar-inspired Saudi league
The Harambee Stars forward has explained why he became a globe trotter after leaving the Kenya Premier League before finally settling in money-minting Saudi Arabia this year.
Midway through the second half Alfani Barbosa went on an extraordinary solo run which started inside his own half and ended with him cutting onto his left foot inside the penalty area, but his shot was way high and wide.
Mathare then enjoyed a spell of pressure at the other end, though they lacked the necessary precision in attack to truly cut open Kajiado's defence, with Wamalwa not called into action nearly as much as in the opening quarter of the game.
The Slum Boys then stunned the crowd with a goal out of nowhere in the 89th minute when Pascal Ogweno blasted the ball home after getting on the end of a Tony Odhiambo delivery to make it 2-1.
The result saw Mathare United claim their eighth win of the season and maintain their place at the top of the standings, while Kajiado remained in the eighth spot.
