The United States have appointed ex-Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino as new head coach of the Men's national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new head coach of the United States Men's National Team, marking a swift return to management after his departure from Chelsea at the end of last season.

The Argentine tactician has signed on to lead the team's efforts ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Pochettino expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating,

"The decision to join U.S. Soccer wasn't just about football for me; it's about the journey that this team and this country are on. The energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here — those are the things that inspired me."

He added, "The opportunity to lead the U.S. Men's National Team, in front of fans who are just as passionate as the players, is something I couldn't pass up.

"I see a group of players full of talent and potential, and together, we're going to build something special that the whole nation can be proud of."

The 51-year-old's appointment comes after a disappointing Copa America campaign under former coach Gregg Berhalter, who was dismissed following the team's failure to advance beyond the group stages. Defeats to Uruguay and Panama sealed their fate, while Canada reached the final four.

Pochettino previously managed Chelsea from May 2023 until the end of the season, delivering UEFA Conference League football and an EFL Cup final appearance.
