Legendary goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert slams Mbappe, claims he is predictable and will struggle in South American football.

Legendary Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert believes Kylian Mbappe is predictable and will struggle in South American football.

The 57-year-old retired shot-stopper, who is famously the goalkeeper with the second most goals in history (54) claims Mbappe will be average in South America, the continent where he spent most of his career.

What Chilavert said

The former Strasbourg goalkeeper was quoted by Ole, speaking on a radio show called Futbol de los Grandes.

Kylian Mbappe is regarded by most as one of the best players in the world, but the legendary goalkeeper does not share the sentiments, or rather believes the France international cannot replicate his exploits in Europe on the South American continent.

Chilavert thinks Mbappe is predictable and claims his speed will be of little use against defenders from the region, who he believes will cope with him easily.

"I would like to see him running at altitude in La Paz or Quito or playing away in Brazil,” Chilavert said.

"Here, he would be an average player; he's predictable. Obviously, he has an advantage with his speed, but with a defender blowing his neck, we can control him calmly."

Mbappe and South America

Recall that last year, the Paris Saint-Germain star made a statement that rubbed many from the continent the wrong way.

Mbappe, per Marca, said football in South America is less advanced than that in Europe. He cited that as the reason for European dominance in recent editions of the World Cup.

The former Monaco has since gone on to lose in a World Cup final against a South American team, Argentina.
