French captain Kylian Mbappe has stated that he has no intention on going back on his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has reiterated his desire to stay at the club for the next season despite informing the club that he would not be renewing his current contract and intends to leave at the end of next season.

Mbappe unwilling to extend his contract

Mbappe had the option of unilaterally extending his contract, which is set to expire in June 2024, by another year, but recently informed PSG that he would not be taking that option.

With the club reportedly unwilling to lose him on a free transfer next season, they are looking to sell the Frenchman this summer if they can not convince him to sign a new contract.

However, Mbappe is adamant that he would rather leave at the end of next season than be sold this season, as he still wants to stay at the club for another year.

Speaking ahead of France’s European qualifier against Gibraltar, Mbappe clarified his future plans to the press, saying, “I’ve already spoken about this. I’ve said that my objective is to stay at PSG, it’s my only option right now, I’m ready to come back for pre-season.

“I just sent a letter [to PSG], but it was time ago, not during the international break … No need to explain why. I have my own reasons.

“My only option now is staying at PSG, I already said that.”

Mbappe also noted that he would not be going back on his decisions both to leave next summer and also to remain with the club until then, regardless of PSG’s intentions to sell him.

Mbappe decision permanent

The France captain also said that his decision had not been impacted by French president Emmanuel Macron and noted that he and the statesman were already in agreement.

Mbappe said, ““Macron will have no impact on my future. He hopes for me to stay at PSG, and I want to stay, so… we’re on the same page.”

Finally, Mbappe refused to explain why he had made the decisions that he did, saying he believed he was doing the right thing.

“Explain why I plan to stay without renewing? Guys, there’s nothing to explain,” Mbappe said, before continuing, “People can talk, criticize… I know why I do what I do and why I say what I say. People don’t have all the information.”

Mbappe has been the top scorer in Ligue 1 on five separate occasions, and has in the past noted that he wants to remain in France to become the record holder of French top division golden boots by beating legend Just Fontaine to a sixth award.
