McKinstry admitted that AFC Leopards ‘were creating the better chances’ while his side played the football before capitalising on the few opportunities they got.
Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry is adamant that his charges should have scored more goals during their 2-0 win over AFC Leopards at the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby.
Gor soared to victory inspired by a brace by hotshot striker Benson Omala, which keeps them in second place behind surprise league leaders Posta Rangers after six games.
Speaking after the match, McKinstry admitted that AFC Leopards ‘were creating the better chances’ while his side played the football before capitalising on the few opportunities they got.

STARS ABROAD Omurwa shines as Estrela Amaradora edge past Casa Pia
Johnstone Omurwa's standout performance helps Estrela Amaradora clinch a dramatic late victory, breaking their winless streak and setting the stage for the Kenya-Russia friendly.
“I thought overall, we are obviously very pleased with the outcome, I thought in the first half, the headline that we said to the players at half time was that we were playing football but AFC were creating the chances,” he said.
“They were not clear-cut chances, but they were having shots from the edge of the box and whipping crosses in and I just thought yes we were one nil up at halftime but Benson’s goal was our only clear chance in the first half.
“It might have been a half chance but you have to be clinical. We were solid and strong at the back. We wanted and we did in the second half try to take them away from our goal more but we also had to simplify our game.”

FOOTBALL ‘Where is Omala?’ - Fans question exclusion of Gor Mahia striker from Harambee Stars squad
A section of Harambee Stars fans have expressed their displeasure at the exclusion of Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala from the team set to face Russia in a friendly match
McKinstry has revealed he was far from pleased by the fact that some of his technical players tried to showboat for much of the first half but was happy they simplified things in the second half.
“Sometimes in the first half, we tried to do too much with the ball with the cameras on and the big crowd, some of our more technical players wanted to show their full repertoire of what they had.
“In the second half, we simplified things a little bit, give and goes, one or two-touch football, runs in behind which opened up AFC more.”

Gor Mahia Player Ratings: Omala, Sibomana impress for Gor Mahia
Omala and Sibomana headline high player ratings for Gor Mahia players as they storm to victory over AFC Leopards.
McKinstry believes his side should have had a penalty after Levis Opiyo appeared to foul Benson Omala before the game ended.
“It could have been more than the two goals really. Benson had another chance he was unfortunate about. The referee told me at full-time that the goalkeeper had not touched the player but I was confident it was a penalty at the end.
“Look, we can’t be greedy, 2-0, a clean sheet and two goals which we said before the game has been lacking a little this season and if you want to win the league title and defend the championship, you have got to keep clean sheets.”
Gor Mahia will face Tusker in their seventh league game of the season.

A section of fans, pundits and neutrals alike have asked for Omala to contribute more to the team rather than just putting the ball in the back of the net, but the Northern Irish tactician believes Omala needs to stick to doing what he is just good at.
