The Northern Irish tactician was disappointed with his charges' failure to take their chances.
Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry blames shortage of luck for his team's woeful defeat to Mathare United on Wednesday.
K'Ogalo recorded their second defeat of the season when they fell to a 2-1 loss to the Slum Boys in a Football Kenya Federation (FKFPL) match at Kasarani.
A disappointed McKinstry said they could have been better with some chances during the match.
"We needed to do more. We were below our levels. We hit the woodwork twice and had one goal disallowed, so we can consider ourselves unfortunate.
Our quality could have been better in putting the ball to the central players, so overall, it was a disappointing day for us because we were flat.
Even the first fifteen minutes of the match felt like a preseason game as there was not quite the tempo and intensity used in league games, but we have to pick ourselves up," said McKinstry.
The league-leading top scorer Benson Omalla thought he had found the back of the net two minutes before the halftime break but saw his effort disallowed for an offside.
Peter Lwasa was brilliantly denied by Mathare United goalkeeper Brian Olang'o early in the second stanza and Boniface Omondi failed to tame a promising ball in a one-on-one situation with the former Kariobangi Sharks custodian.
K'Ogalo were without influential midfielder John Ochieng' and defender Paul Ochuoga in their game against Mathare.
Gor Mahia have now turned their attention to their FKF Cup Round of 32 game against Kibera Soccer.
The match will be played this Sunday, March 5, at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
