Jonathan McKinstry is rumored to be considering a move to the Gambia National Team.

Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has seemingly chosen to stay away from the swirling rumors linking him with a move to the Gambia National Team.

As speculation mounts, McKinstry's focus remains unshakably on the task at hand—securing another FKF Premier League title for his team.

With only five matches left in the season, Gor Mahia is poised to clinch an unprecedented 21st league title.

K'Ogalo currently leads the 18-team league by a comfortable nine-point margin over their nearest rivals, Police FC. A win in their upcoming match against KCB FC could significantly edge them closer to the trophy.

In a recent public statement, the first since the rumors began, McKinstry addressed the situation indirectly.

"A big week ahead in the FKF Premier League. Gor Mahia players and staff are focused and prepared for what will be two demanding matches, starting with KCB FC on Thursday. Once again we ask the Green Army to come out in their huge numbers to be part of the journey," he tweeted.

The Irishman's tenure with Gor Mahia has been marked by considerable success.

Since taking over in July 2022, he has led the team to clinch the FKF Premier League title last season with 70 points, just one point ahead of Tusker FC.

Under his guidance, Gor Mahia remains unbeaten in their last five matches this season, including four consecutive victories.

The team's consistent performance this season builds on McKinstry’s already impressive record, which also includes a victory in the 2023-24 FKF Charity Shield against Kakamega Homeboyz. Despite these successes, his potential move to manage the Gambia national team has been a topic of intense discussion.

Reports suggest that McKinstry’s contract with Gor Mahia is being amended to facilitate a smooth transition to the Gambia Football Federation.

Originally slated to end his contract in September it is now expected that he will sign a new deal that ends in June paving the way for his new role.

The situation presents a bittersweet scenario for Gor Mahia fans who have seen their team prosper under McKinstry's leadership but may soon have to bid farewell to the coach who brought stability and success back to their club.

His likely departure would mark the end of an impactful era and the beginning of a new chapter both for him and for Gor Mahia.
