Gor Mahia's coach McKinstry highlights the transformative impact of their new bus, thanks to ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo's support.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry is elated about the club's recent acquisition of a brand new bus which he believes will create a buzz around games when fans spot it across towns in the country.

The bus, funded by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo through his foundation, bears the club's official colors and is valued at around Ksh20 million.

As the bus sets to make its way from the Maanzoni assembling plant to Kasarani, McKinstry shared his thoughts on the game-changing advantages it will bring to the record champions.

In a conversation with the club's media on Wednesday, McKinstry expressed his gratitude towards CS Eliud Owalo for fulfilling a promise made earlier in the year.

"We thank CS Owalo; it is not easy to bring people together and to raise that sort of money that it takes to purchase the vehicle that he has made available to the club. It is going to make a big difference in terms of travel," he said.

McKinstry acknowledged that traveling within Kenya especially for away games has historically posed challenges for the team.

The new bus, he believes, will significantly improve the players' well-being during these journeys.

"We all know that moving around Kenya is not easy, especially on away games. So to have something players can be comfortable in is really going to have a positive impact on both their well-being when getting to the games," he added.

The Irishman also pointed out the promotional advantages the bus will bring to the club.

"Also in terms of advertising games, when people see that bus rolling in town, it can bring excitement and generate buzz around an upcoming game. So we have to thank him greatly for that a hundred times over," he noted.

With the new bus, the club's PR team is gearing up for a grand launch on Sunday, and McKinstry explained their strategy.

"In terms of advertising, we have been working with the guys who are launching it. We have a very big squad, so the guys who will be involved in the march (procession) will have less to do on the day and can be more actively involved with the fans and the launch," he concluded.

The acquisition of the bus comes after Gor Mahia faced a turbulent period earlier this year when auctioneers sold the previous bus. This situation arose following a petition by former player Wellington Ochieng’, who sought to recover unpaid wages and sign-on fees exceeding Ksh1 million through the commercial court.
