Gor Mahia coach McKinstry firmly dismisses controversial claims in the Tusker game by standing by the referee's decision amid heated discussions.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry stood firm on his view regarding the controversial penalty claim during the recent FKF Premier League clash against Tusker FC, held at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

The much-talked-about incident occurred in the 84th minute when Gor defender Kennedy 'Vidic' Onyango was involved in a contentious handball situation.

Despite Tusker FC's protestations, McKinstry maintained that the referee's decision to not award a penalty was justified, citing the rules of the game.

"The ball hit his hand, and he was down, bracing his hands against the grass. That was not a penalty, and the rules are clear on this. If you are on the floor and you are using your hand to brace yourself against the grass, and the ball hits you on the grass, it cannot be a penalty," McKinstry explained, displaying confidence in his understanding of the game's regulations.

This decisive match saw Gor Mahia secure a narrow yet crucial 1-0 victory over Robert Matano's Tusker side, which has shown formidable form in recent games.

The win was sealed thanks to Austin Odhiambo's exquisite freekick in the 21st minute, marking a significant triumph for K’Ogalo, who had already clinched three consecutive 1-0 victories prior to this encounter.

Tusker coach Matano, while acknowledging the overall quality of the officiating, expressed his disappointment at not being awarded a penalty.

"That was a penalty, but what can I do even if I complain? It was a clear penalty, but the referee decided otherwise. It was not a bad game; we started slowly and caught up later. We didn't convert our chances, but we played well in the second half. We are fighting hard and are not out of the title race," Matano said, his tone a mix of dejection and resolve.

The win propelled Gor Mahia 10 points clear of their closest rivals, Nairobi City Stars, further solidifying their position at the top of the league table.

McKinstry's team showcased a resilient defense throughout the match, fending off Tusker's advances and maintaining their lead established by Odhiambo's early strike.
