The record champions clawed back from a goal down to trounce Talanta.
Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has admitted his side survived a scare against FC Talanta on Wednesday.
Gor Mahia went down in the 18th minute as Ken Kenyatta’s side threatened to stun them, but a brace from Benson Omala saved the record champions.
"That was scary," McKinstry told the media after the game.
"We came close to losing the match but kept our spirits high to secure a win, and I, of course, must commend my players for a battle well fought."

FKFPL Omala’s contentious brace lifts lucky Gor Mahia over Talanta
Talanta protested, as they were not convinced by the manner in which K’Ogalo scored their second goal.
Ahead of their match against Talanta, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo hosted K’Ogalo and cleared the players’ allowances, something that McKinstry lauded as a morale-booster.
"There is high morale in the camp after the bulk of the player allowances were cleared on Tuesday. The players promised him they would be winning the league this season, and it seems they played their hearts out this [Wednesday] afternoon," he added.
"We are happy with the results because we are now two points clear of our closest challengers. We are aware that everyone expects us to win the title this season, and we don't want to let our fans down."

FKFPL Relief for Gor Mahia as ICT boss Owalo settles player bonuses
ICT Cabinet Secretary and Gor Mahia fan, Eliud Owalo, hosted the team and officials to a breakfast where he gave them a pending bonus of Ksh. 725,000 and promised to help them acquire a new team bus in the near future.
On his part, Talanta’s head coach, Ken Kenyatta, was furious at the manner in which they conceded goals.
Although Gor Mahia equalized through a penalty, Talanta conceded the second in a rather controversial manner.
Gor Mahia won a free kick that they took quickly and got Talanta – who were still organising - off guard as Omala went on to score.
Talanta protested, but the officials stood by the initial decision that allowed the goal to stand.
"We are always making the same mistakes, and this makes it difficult for us to win. We should stop letting in goals in a silly way if we want to survive," Kenyatta bemoaned.
