FKFPL McKinstry promises K'Ogalo fury when they collide with title rivals Tusker

Gor Mahia return to league action this weekend after conceding a rare loss to AFC Leopards.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry is optimistic they will bounce back from the Mashemeji Derby loss when they face Tusker on Sunday.

After falling to AFC Leopards in their last assignment, K’Ogalo have an opportunity to return to winning ways when they battle Premier League title rivals Tusker at Nyayo Stadium.

McKinstry is partly motivated by how his players have responded in training sessions and the energy shown ahead of the potentially title-deciding game.

"We lost our last game in the derby against AFC Leopards, but I am happy the response I got from my players on return to training was excellent; they showed me they want to fight again and win the next game," McKinstry said.

"We all know we need to bounce back, the players look determined to get a win against Tusker, they look reenergized after that derby defeat. They want to make things right and the focus has been really good."

The Northern Irish tactician regretted how they dropped the points against arch-rivals but is hopeful they can get things better when they host this year’s FKF Cup finalist.

"It was unfortunate we dropped points against AFC," he added.

"We played very well but could not take our chances, including the penalty miss, but again AFC got two chances from set pieces and they scored.

"Like I had said earlier, football can be cruel sometimes, but we must get ready to make things better against Tusker, it is our next match, so we need to get maximum points."

A defeat to Tusker will spell further doom for Gor Mahia’s title ambitions, and thus the record champions will want to avoid such a setback. Only a point separates the Brewers, leading by 64 points, from K’Ogalo in second.
