Inter Miami stars failed to shine in MLS Playoffs defeat to Atlanta United.

Atlanta United forced a Game Three against Inter Miami after beating the Herons 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Xande Silva.

The Miami-based side won the first of the best-of-three playoff games against today's opponents. They were 2-1 victors in the clash thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba.

Atlanta have now taken Game Two following disappointing performances from Miami’s stars, including Lionel Messi and Suarez, who combined for three missed big chances.

Key match details

Federico Redondo seemingly obstructed Brad Guzan's goal kick in the 39th minute, allowing the midfielder to collect the loose ball and pick out Hector David Martinez in the box. The centre-back then delicately chipped the ball over a scrambling Atlanta defence, scoring into an unguarded net.

The goal seemed to deflate the hosts, but Atlanta United staged a dramatic comeback in the second half. Derrick Williams hit first, scoring the equaliser just before the hour mark, from a well-worked set-piece routine.

Miami were minutes away from winning the series but Xande Silva, rewarding Atlanta for their gusty last flurry, took advantage of lax marking to secure the thrilling victory for Rob Valentino's side.

Inter Miami now risk getting knocked out in the playoffs in the winner-takes-all Game Three clash. However, irrespective of the result, their Supporters Shield victory has ensured their place in next summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
