Messi rejects Al-Hilal's offer
Recent reports have revealed that Messi received a weekly salary offer from Al-Hilal but turned down the offer.
According to CentreGoals, “Last summer, Lionel Messi 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 a weekly salary offer from Al-Hilal of €15-20M. With bonuses and objectives, it could have totalled €900M-€1B annually. 🤯💰”
Messi might have been one of the highest-paid football players in history if he had accepted the offer, but instead, the former PSG player chose to join Inter Miami.
His salary would have crushed Cristiano Ronaldo's wages, who currently earns 200 million euros (₦355 billion) at Al Nassr.
Messi later revealed why he chose the MLS, saying, “I’m at a point where I want to step out of the spotlight a bit, think more about my family. I had two years where I was so unhappy on a personal level that I didn’t enjoy it.
“I had that month that was spectacular for me because of winning the World Cup, but apart from that, it was a difficult period for me. I want to rediscover joy, enjoy my family, my children, the day-to-day.”
Meanwhile, Emiliano Martinez has backed five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi to lead Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper insists he still thinks Messi has the power to go to the next World Cup.
