Lionel Messi is the favourite to win an 8th Ballon d'Or and the Argentine continues to receive support from footballers past and present.

Ex-Barcelona, Real Madrid and Argentina striker Javier Saviola has backed Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d'Or and remain in contention for the award until he retires.

Messi is the odds-on favourite to win the award for a record-shattering 8th time, ahead of Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Saviola backs Messi for Balon d'Or

Saviola threw his weight behind the 36-year-old Messi, saying (via Be Soccer):

Pulse Sports previously reported that Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario has joined the chorus of support for Messi's 8th Ballon d'Or.

The Award ceremony will be held on October 30 in Paris.
