Addressing the media, Finidi revealed that it is not his responsibility to actively pursue these players, as there are specific procedures that need to be followed.

The new Super Eagles boss explained that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has personnel dedicated to handling these matters, and their role is to provide recommendations.

"I am a coach, some procedures have to be done for players, maybe you are not aware. You don't just see a Nigerian that is playing in one of these clubs and say 'let him come'.

"It doesn't work that way. There is some paperwork, procedures, you have to speak to these players and that's not my job."

"We have people at the NFF that have been doing that and in the future will. Our job is to watch and when we see a good player and (tell the NFF) 'can we see how we can bring this one?' and the people that will do the job properly will make that happen."

The experienced coach made it clear that if they identify a player who can potentially contribute to the national team, they will recommend the individual to the NFF, who will then take care of the necessary steps.

"If we see a player that we know can help, bring on board, we would recommend and the rest the NFF will take care of that."

Finidi's comments suggest a pragmatic approach, as he focuses on his coaching duties while leaving the player recruitment process to the appropriate administrative bodies within the Nigerian football setup.

Crystal Palace forward Olise, who scored 10 goals and assisted six in 19 appearances lead the contingent of Nigeria-eligible stars who have been called to line up for their father’s land.
